Anthony Evans was born in 1948 in Glanaman, Carmarthenshire. From 1968 to 1971 he studied at Trinity College Carmarthen and from 1979 to 1982 at Cardiff Institute of Higher Education. For years he taught in schools but eventually gave it up in order to concentrate on his painting and work as a children's book illustrator, ident designer for TV as well as theatre & film set designer.
Artist's Statement: "Feelings, emotions, dreams, memories and of course, Wales - these are the main elements that are the foundations of my vision as an artist.
Using familiar and ordinary subject matter I attempt to create a visual language of symbols, signs and colour through which I can make sense of the world and life in general.
An integral part of the creative process for me is to re-discover hidden and forgotten paths that have played an important part in my life and in so doing, tell a story of that journey.
Through the use of memory and the investigation of past incidents, I find it possible to establish an identity as an artist and thus record a narrative of the self." (quoted by kind permission of the artist from one of his fly-sheet).
