African Art has been of great interest to European artists ever since the Expressionists. Explorers and adventurers brought examples of exotic sculptural art to Europe from all corners of the globe. But it was African Art above all others that artists were greatly attracted to. Today, this interest is as fresh as it was more than 100 years ago, except that nowadays, artists travel personally to African locations of their own choice, and artists from Wales are no exception. This new form of contact has also introduced new aspects into the African influences that artists are exposed to, e.g. architecture and landscape. Below are some examples by contemporary Artists of Wales that reflect this situation.
